Pre-PAX: Adventure in Seattle

Last weekend was PAX Prime in Seattle so Matt and I headed up a few days early to meet with friends and see the sights. Prepare yourself with way too many instagram photos. The nice one were taken by Matt, check out his blog posts about the trip at his site, Nyannet.

We were greeted with a typical cloudy day our first day there, but it was a sunny Seattle the rest of vacation. I think we came back with a tan!

We wandered over to Pikes Place Market and explored the maze of shops and treats. I saw these painted wood creatures in a shop and love this creature with the wonderful tail. I ended up taking a little armadillo home to add to my collection (so far have a dragon and rabbit, but the cats managed to steal the wings off my dragon so he's looking not so fierce these days).

Later we met up with some friends and ate at Ristorante Machiavelli an Italian restaurant that was yummy and cute. Then we played MTG in the hotel. I have to say that I was quite nervous to play with a group (I've only ever played against Matt and never had a game involving more than one person at a time). I did ok for a while but was the first eliminated :)

The next day we met up with our friends Tally, Jeremy, and Thomas for breakfast at Toulouse Petit which I had totally underestimated how far of a walk it was! But we made it and it was wonderful food and friends.

We then went to Card Kingdom which is a nerd mecha for all your table top gaming needs. Seeing all the wonderful D&D play area's really made me want to play again.

The Card Kingdom rooms were very cool with custom gaming chandeliers and artwork done by Joe Vollan (I also met him and he was nice enough to sign a pack of cards he illustrated). Cafe Mox which is connected to Card Kingdom had amazing cider beers and lots of yummy snacks.

We headed over to the Pacific Science Center and were greeted by two dinos.

The main reason for coming to the Science Center was to see the King Tutankhamun exhibit on display. The exhibit was really well displayed and there was nice ambient music to suit the show. There were a lot of people there but were still able to shuffle along and see everything.

This cat sarcophagus was one of my favorite items. In school we've seen lots of images of ancient Egypt and studied the art in class, but I can't image how amazing it would be to have found these objects buried under the sand and hidden away. Slightly jealous of the early explorers, but not fond of the grave robbing, curses and such.

My main reason for wanting to see this show was to see the gold sarcophagus of King Tutankhamun that held his mummy, but it wasn't part of this exhibit. The piece the show had was this foot tall gold statue (or held his organs? I can't remember what the sign said), and while it was impressively detailed and beautiful, I just wanted to see THE item that is so iconic of the King Tutankhamun discovery.

The Science Center also had a butterfly room which I'm a sucker for. I think it was the butterfly's nap time because most of them were resting on the canopy netting at the top. I didn't hold it against them...I needed a nap too.

But no naps for us, because there was more adventure to be had! We met up again with Thomas (who is awesome for showing us around Seattle. Thank you Thomas!) and he showed us the Scifi Exhibit in the area.

Here I am being nerdy with the Stargate prop. It was one of my favorite shows in high school. The exhibit had a lot of interesting Scifi movie props and whoever designed the wall and info desplays did a sweet job.

I can't remember which movie this is from but he's got a pretty great little grin.

After a day of roaming around we were super tired but excited because that night we had tickets to see The Scott & Kris, Kris & Scott show at The Triple Door.

I didn't get any good photos that night but there were lots of great guests including Loading Ready Run, Cards Against Humanity, and other awesome people. My face hurt I was grinning and laughing so hard. It was a great night at Scott and Kris put on a good show.

Coming up in the next post: Pax Prime 2012!!!
