Glow in the Dark show at Bottleneck Gallery

This Friday is the opening to When the Lights go Out - a glow in the dark show at Bottleneck gallery in Brooklyn, NY. I love the idea of an image that is revealed in the dark, really wish I could see this exhibit in person!

Here is my piece for the show. I had never used any type of glow in the dark paint before, but I did a little research online and found the shop GloNation online that has glow paints in various colors. (traditional green has the longest glow time, but I really liked the aqua blue color so I went with that one). I also picked up a lovely purple that I want to try on another piece sometime.

The idea for this piece was this ghost procession going through a sleepy town at night. The residents there may or may not know about their ghostly visitors, but sometimes see glowing footprints in the morning. 

The ghosts and cat (complete with paw prints), and the tree buds all glow in the dark. I had to use several layers of the glow paint to make it really stand out in the dark, but overall I was really happy with the paint. I had a really hard time photographing the glow, but my guy has a good photo tent setup and got this image for me.

"The Gangs all Here" Show at Bottleneck Gallery

This Friday, November 16th, is the opening for the group show "The Gangs all Here" featuring your favorite group, bros, family, bff, and more. Here is Bottlenecks description of the show:

"Friendship- it's the best ship of them all. Your friends are the people who make you laugh until you cry, are there for you when you are down, and pick you up when you fall. Bottleneck is set to honor our friends with "The Gang Is All Here," an exhibit dedicated to the art industry's legendary cliques, groups, buds, and gangs. Each artist will present work based on their favorite classic batch of friends, pulling from songs, films, and books. So come by and bring your gang to meet ours."

For my contribution for the show I chose the Hogwarts gang with Hermione, Luna, Harry, Ron, Ginny, Fred, and George. As the books developed (and the One Who Must Not Be Named gained more power), this group a lot on their plate (saving the world and all) that there was almost no time to just have fun, relax, and just have a good time. So this is my take on one of their fun times, testing some of Fred and George's fireworks.

A few upcoming shows and sneak peeks.

There are lots of great shows coming up this fall. For those of you that follow me on the twitter, facebook, and instagram world you've probably already seen these little sneak peeks of my works in progress, but here is some more info on the shows and events these items are for.

First up this October is The Zombie Show at Bottleneck Gallery in NYC. While I am really creeped out by zombies, I still wanted to come up with something for this show. Here is a detail of my painting "Zombie Cats Just Wanna Have Fun". Cute, cuddly, slightly undead felines can still enjoy the catty things in life despite their zombie status.

Coming up this November 9th is the PRISMA Artists Collective show Milk at Fine Grime Gallery located in Bath, UK. Our collective consists of 30 artists from around the world who chat (thanks to the internets) about art, materials, and help navigate the art world together. It's great to have such a great group of friends to talk with :) 

I will have more details on this show when it get's a little closer. Above is my white Irish Elk painting for the show.

I am very excited to participate again this year in the Desert Bus for Hope event! The past two years I've donated a video game inspired painting to be auctioned off for the event. Proceeds go towards the Childs Play charity that donates games for kids to play in hospitals. You might reconize the two characters above from one of my favorite game series The Legend of Zelda. 

I originally was just going to do a painting of Link, but thought Zelda needed her own piece too so I ended up doing two different pieces. This original paintings will be available for auction for the event. I will be posting the exact times and dates they go up for auction later in November.

Tune in later this November to watch the Desert Bus online, there are always lots of guests, exciting auctions and lots of fun!

That's just a few of the shows coming up. There is also a Wes Anderson show, Craftacular one-night event in Lincoln, and a few local holiday shows as well!! And last but not least, is a two-person show in California that I will be part of and FINALLY TRAVELING TO CALIFORNIA to be at...I am very excited for the show!!!
