Test Print

Tinkered around on my Kelsey press last night....and behold, my very first test print! While this might not look very promising it was what I expected. My supposedly "type high" wood type I was using had varying heights for some reason...

BUT a little experimenting with packing paper and adjusting the rollers might just do the trick...we'll see!

Lux Center Gala Print

Here is a print I have been working on the last couple days. This piece was commissioned by the Lux Center for the Arts in Lincoln, NE.

The mission of Lux Center for the Arts is to enhance the lives of a diverse public through the visual arts by providing exceptional learning opportunities in contemporary art, craft, and design. These opportunities, honoring the legacy of arts educator Gladys M. Lux, include art classes, residence programs, gallery exhibitions, and community outreach.

Coming up this September they are having "A deLUX Art Gala" benefit dinner and art auction. Every person who attends this event will receive one of this prints! I printed these on handmade paper (variety of colors - light blue, cream, sparkle, white!) by my favorite paper place, Porridge Papers.

The Lux Center has supported many artists as well as the community. Please come and support the Lux by participating "A deLUX Art Gala"! Event is September 19, 4:30 pm at the Grand Manse in Lincoln.

Paper!

I made a stop to Porridge papers the other day and stocked up on paper for my upcoming letterpress projects. Their handmade paper come in beautiful colors and I'm especially fond of the blue and orange papers.

Upcoming letterpress projects (so far):
Christmas Cards
Art Prints
Etsy Business Cards
2011 Calendar

I have a couple ideas in mind for the Christmas cards to sell this holiday season, but I'm also wondering if anyone has any requests or suggestion on designs. Rabbits? Trees? Terrariums? A little typography? Let me know your thoughts!

Kelsey Letterpress!

Well ladies and gentleman...after a couple years of searching for a little tabletop letterpress I finally got one! Meet my 6x10 Kelsey Excelsior Model X. (A more proper name will come later, once I figure out the personality.)

It needs cleaned up and rollers, but I'm ready for the challenge. I even might get it up and running for Cottonwood festival and print on site. Any advice on restoring presses...feel free to comment!
