Last Breath of Summer - PRISMA Collective Group Show at Subtext Gallery

This Saturday, July 19th is the opening to "Last Breath Of Summer" at Subtext Gallery in San Diego, California. This is a group show of select PRISMA Collective members. Love showing with my fellow PRISMA art friends! The show is curated by PRISMA group founder and fellow artist Kaspian Shore.

Here is a little bit about our group and info via Subtext Gallery.
"PRISMA is an international artist collective of thirty creatives, founded by Kaspian Shore in November 2011. In their second group show at Subtext, a selection of artists from the PRISMA Collective have come together to bring a touch of sentimentality to their latest exhibition, Last Breath of Summer. Think of the last few rays of sunshine before the arrival of autumn, a touch of gold and fading warmth, a memory of long nights by the sea, of playing hide and seek in yellow wheat fields. Last Breath of Summer is a melancholy goodbye to the high of the year, celebrated by artists Tom BagshawJ.A.W. CooperNicole GustafssonMartine JohannaEdith LebeauKelly McKernanLilly PiriAudrey PongraczKaspian ShoreKelly VivancoCasey Weldon, and N.C. Winters."

"Summertide" is my contribution for the show. I love those warm summer nights with fireflies dancing in the night, and unnatural colors seem to make their way in the shadows and world. This is one of my favorite reasons why I love camping in the summers. I haven't made it out this year, but look forward to those last days of summer.

My painting was inspired by ice that drips from rocks and leaves beautiful ice formations. Since moving to the Pacific Northwest, I have discovered that moisture conditions are perfect for forming unusual ice formations and frost. In my illustration, adventurers have set up base camp among the frost tree trees and go out exploring.

Prisma Collaboration show at Distinction Gallery

This upcoming Saturday is the opening to the Prisma Artist Collective show: You and I, and the Worlds Between Us. Every piece in the show is a collaborative effort between two or more artists. The PRISMA Art Collective is an international group of 30 artists who I am proud to call my friends. This collective was formed by Kaspian Shore in effort to bring artists together and share our knowledge, thoughts on art, and just to simply be there for each other.

I teamed up with the wonderful Daria Hlazatova to produce two pieces for the show. Daria lives in the Ukraine and does wonderful drawings, ink pieces, collages and more. For this collaboration show we each started a piece and then swapped drawings for the other to finish in any way they wanted to. First up is this piece "Where the Fish Dance" that was started by Daria and I finished the piece in gouache and ink.

The second piece "Enchanted Forest" was started by me and finished by Daria in ink. I wanted to play off a similar theme with the castle and fish.

Animal in Me - PRISMA show this Friday!

I posted about this show a while back, but this Friday, February 15th is the official opening! Exhibiting at Subtext Gallery in San Diego, all the artwork from the show is currently online for purchase. Here is the writeup about the show:

"This February, we are excited (and honored) to host the inaugural group exhibition from PRISMA, an international artist collective founded by painter and curator Kaspian Shore. Founded in 2011, the group currently supports 30 talented creatives, working in the fields of traditional and digital painting, drawing, illustration, and sculpting. PRISMA stands for a high standard in professionalism and almost exclusively features internationally renowned artists. They have built a tightly woven network and established good friendships within their collective that serve to encourage and promote their artists, representing the core of what PRISMA is about: stepping out of the isolation in the vastness of the art market."

Milk - Prisma Artist Collective Exhibit

Tonight is the opening for our Prisma Art Collectives 2nd mini exhibit (there's 30 of us in the collective so we halved the group for these two mini shows, with a entire group show coming up this February!)  located at Fine Grime in Bath England. Artists participating in this exhibit are Tom Bagshaw, Hsiao-Ron Cheng, Caitlin Hackett, Ruben Ireland, Sarah Joncas, Nom Kinnear King, Jen Mann, Soey Milk, Lilly Piri, Michael Shapcott, Kaspian Shore, Allison Sommers, Bec Winnel and myself.

The show is in conjunction with the Bath Art Affair and is running November 9 - 11th.

This is my contribution to the show. I've been interested by white deer/elk tales in mythology and choose to depict an Irish Elk because I love how crazy big their antlers are (they are also one of the largest deer to have ever lived). They died out thousands of years ago, but we still get to enjoy their fossils in museums and learn about life in that time period.
