Lux Center Gala Print

Here is a print I have been working on the last couple days. This piece was commissioned by the Lux Center for the Arts in Lincoln, NE.

The mission of Lux Center for the Arts is to enhance the lives of a diverse public through the visual arts by providing exceptional learning opportunities in contemporary art, craft, and design. These opportunities, honoring the legacy of arts educator Gladys M. Lux, include art classes, residence programs, gallery exhibitions, and community outreach.

Coming up this September they are having "A deLUX Art Gala" benefit dinner and art auction. Every person who attends this event will receive one of this prints! I printed these on handmade paper (variety of colors - light blue, cream, sparkle, white!) by my favorite paper place, Porridge Papers.

The Lux Center has supported many artists as well as the community. Please come and support the Lux by participating "A deLUX Art Gala"! Event is September 19, 4:30 pm at the Grand Manse in Lincoln.

For more information and to register for the event visit here.

Kelsey Letterpress!

Well ladies and gentleman...after a couple years of searching for a little tabletop letterpress I finally got one! Meet my 6x10 Kelsey Excelsior Model X. (A more proper name will come later, once I figure out the personality.)

It needs cleaned up and rollers, but I'm ready for the challenge. I even might get it up and running for Cottonwood festival and print on site. Any advice on restoring presses...feel free to comment!

Testing...yup still works.

Soooo....I know when my parents ask if my blog still works that it's time to update!

It's been a pretty crazy month, between moving (trying to decide where I should jam all my stuff) and going on vacation to Minnesota (thanks Lindsey & Tom). My studio's still a mess but I hope to start painting again soon! But for now here's a photo log of what I've been up to this last month or so...

(As you can see my life consists of mostly plants + cats of some sort or another)

Finished Tree House Print

Here's the finished print for the thank you cards I was cutting the other day. This is printed on some nice handmade paper by Porridge Paper. I might do other colors for the different seasons...

Yay for Linoleum!

I've been working on some designs for thank you cards. Here's what the blocks look like before their printed (the dark blue is just marker so i can see the design better). I'll print the leaf & grass block first and then the tree block. I haven't cut away all of the grass yet because I wanted to check registration first.

Haven't decided on colors yet so it will be a surprise!

Build a House #3

Build a House #3, Lino Print, 5x7, 2009

I got another print done this weekend in the "Build a House" series. I hope someday to have a bunch of these bright little prints done.

Here you can see how I set up the rainbow roll to make the different color blends. (You can also see how I went too deep cutting into the linolum and went right into the particle board...oops!)

Here' s the press we use at the Lux Center.

It's a nice feeling seeing all the prints laid out. When I work on etchings I stick them under the drying boards right away so they dry nice and flat, and I kind of forget about them hanging out under there. Look for these on my etsy store at the end of the week!

Warren

Warren, 6"x8", Etching & Aquatint, 2009.

An etching from my upcoming show "Wanderfrost" at the Lux Center for the arts. I've always been fascinated with bonsai techniques of binding plants to shape them into a certain forms or directions. Here the rabbits have been forming the tree for some unknown reason, but have kept about it quite diligently...

Show opens this Friday, May 1st, with a gallery reception from 5:00 - 7:00pm.

Minden

The reception in Minden went really great and thank you for all who came! Here are three collaborative pieces that Todd, Cody, and I did together. We each started one then passed it along to the next person to add.

Todd Brown started this piece with the box structure, I painted it, and Cody added the ceramic bowls.

Cody started with the ceramic forms, Todd added the wood structure, and I added the prints and wood dangles at the bottom.

I started this piece with the plant painted on wood, Cody added the ceramic holders, and Todd added the wood details.
